Brits hoping to live a long life can find out the areas of the country where they are most likely to reach 100.
There are now more than 15,000 people in England and Wales aged 100 or older with the figure having doubled since 2002. But they still only account for around 0.03% of the population in figures from 2022. And with life expectancy increases having slowed down since 2011, according to the Office for National Statistics, which has been made worse by the impact of Covid.
Coming in at first place as the area where you are most likely to reach the age of 100 is Richmond in Yorkshire which was given a score of 120. This is based on health factors from average life expectancy to the number of cardiovascular conditions. Richmond was followed by Elmridge, Surrey, with a score of 118, with South Lakeland – an area including Windermere and Sedbergh – came in third with a score of 116. But while Richmond was best overall, the whole region of Yorkshire only had three entries among the 50 best ranked locations.

In a survey carried out by Age Wave, it found that 70% of respondents wanted to live to 100 years old as long as they remained healthy and had a sense of purpose, stated Mobility Solutions Direct.

Meanwhile, on a global level Greece, Japan and Costa Rica all have one thing in common – they’re home to three of Earth’s five rare ‘Blue Zones’. These unique areas host the most centenarians in the world, with residents 10 times more likely to live to 100 than anywhere else.
If you don’t live in any of these locations, don’t worry, as the oldest people in the world have now revealed one of their best kept secrets to longevity – and it’s all down to a very strict rule. Dubbed the “80% trick” or “Hara Hachi Bu”, this dieting hack is bad news for anyone who enjoys three big meals on a daily basis.
Many living in Blue Zones usually stick to just one small meal in the late afternoon or early evening, while only eating until they are 80% full – hence the name of the hack. This helps avoid any ‘food coma’ feelings that you may relate to after stuffing your face at the dinner table, and helps them keep moving throughout the day.
