Sunday will bring more icy cold, but temperatures will gradually warm through the week.
If the last several days of snow, ice and painfully cold winds left you wishing for spring, you’ll get a taste of it this week.
While it may not feel like it, Sunday marks the start of a gradual warmup for New Jersey that will see temperatures rise into the 60s in some areas by the end of the workweek, according to the National Weather Service’s long-range outlook.
For now, the region is waking up to another morning of temperatures in the teens to low 20s, and wind chills will make it feel like the single digits in some areas.
Winds of 10 to 20 mph will gust to 30 mph during the day Sunday, which means more blowing snow, the weather service advised. Motorists were also warned to watch for black ice on roadways.
Temperatures will get a bit warmer, with highs topping out in the upper 20s to low 30s under mostly clear skies, the weather service reports.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday along the Jersey Shore, with northwest winds of 15 to 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots. A similar advisory for the Delaware Bay remains in place until 6 p.m.
Temperatures will settle back into the teens Sunday night, with lows of 14 degrees expected in the Sussex area and Trenton.
We’ll finally rise above freezing in most spots during the day on Monday — except for the Poconos — and top out in the mid-30s.
From there, the mercury gradually heads upward, but we could see rain and freezing rain in some spots through mid-week.
By Thursday, we may crack 50 degrees in South Jersey, and much of the region could see 50s by Friday, according to the long-term outlook from the weather service. There’s even a chance on Friday that areas of South Jersey could reach the 60s.
