Jim Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan recently had at least three assistants earning $1 million in Sherrone Moore ($1.2 million), Jesse Minter ($1.2 million) and head strength coach / associate head coach Ben Herbert ($1 million).

Now Sherrone Moore reportedly has his first $1 million assistant.

Quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell’s promotion to the offensive coordinator role marks Moore’s first million-dollar assistant during his young tenure leading the Michigan program according to salary and contract figures shared MLive.

Campbell, who has risen quickly from his initial role as an analyst on staff back in 2022, has a three-year deal worth $3.05 million total.

After making $350k last season as the Wolverines quarterbacks coach, Campbell will now average about $1 million per year.

He’s set to make $950k this fall, $1 million in 2025 and $1.1 million in 2026.

The deal aims to keep Campbell in Ann Arbor through January of 2027.

If he were to leave during his first season, his buyout calls for $950k, $500k for leaving during year two and $275k if he left during the third year of the deal. However, if Campbell left for a Division I head coaching job or for an NFL job in years two or three he would no owe any buyout, and also would not owe an buyout if he left following the final game of the 2026 season, the report adds.

Interestingly, his contract also includes a clause that says he would not owe a buyout out if Sherrone Moore were to reassign the primary play calling duties.

MLive adds that Grant Newsome, who was promoted from tight ends coach to offensive line coach, will make $600k as part of a two year deal that runs through January 2026.

Also, special teams analyst turned special teams coordinator JB Brown also has a two year deal that will pay him $350k per year.

Details have yet to be shared on the more recent hires on the defensive side of the ball in Wink Martindale, Brian Jean-Mary and LaMar Morgan.
