It’s now been revealed who will be playing Jonathan Kent, Clark’s adoptive father, in James Gunn’s Superman. Character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince, known in part for his role in The Walking Dead, has been cast in the role.
The news comes to us from TheWrap. It’s the latest casting for Vince, who played the role of Otis — the character who shoots Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) — in the second season of The Walking Dead. He also had recurring roles in other shows like The Mentalist, Heroes Reborn, Stranger Things, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he won an Emmy for his role in the TV series Murder One. In film, he memorably played Father Hennessy in Keanu Reeves’ Constantine. The actor has also appeared in other movies like Monster, Gotti, and Bird Box.

Vince will become the latest actor to play Jonathan Kent in live-action. Other actors to have played the role on the small screen include Stuart Whitman (Superboy), Eddie Jones (Lois & Clark: The New Adventure of Superman), John Schneider (Smallville), and Fred Henderson (Superman & Lois).
It hasn’t yet been revealed who may be playing Martha Kent — Jonathan’s wife — in Superman. Confirmed cast members include David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Maria Gabriela de Faria (The Engineer), and Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher). Superman & Lois actor Elizabeth Tulloch shares an exciting, albeit sad, production update on the final season of The CW superhero drama series.
It’s Superman vs. Lex Luthor in Superman (2025)
“The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor,” writer-director James Gunn recently stated about the movie’s plot in a social media post. “I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?)”
Superman will be landing in movie theaters on July 11, 2025.
