Heisman Trophy Race Is Over After Brutal First Half For Box Nix Tonight
COLLEGE STATION, TX – NOVEMBER 26: LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) cuts hard to the outside after being flushed from the pocket as Texas A&M Aggies linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (45) closes in during first half action during the football game between the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field on November 26, 2022 in College Station, Texas. Oregon quarterback Bo Nix had one final opportunity to prove to Heisman Trophy voters that he deserves the away given to the best player in college football.
He’s not doing a very good job with that chance, though. Nix and the Ducks are laying a massive egg against Washington in the Pac-12 title game.
Through nearly two quarters of action, Nix has just 64 passing yards after averaging over 325 yards per game in 2023. Given his struggles on Friday night, it’s become clear to fans that the Heisman Trophy race is over.
It’s LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels’ award now. He’s the overwhelming favorite to win the award after one half of play between Oregon and Washington.
“Before tonight’s kickoff, Oregon’s Bo Nix was -200 & LSU’s Jayden Daniels was +160 at @DkSportsbook to win Heisman. Daniels now -120 favorite, Nix -110 via @DougKezirian,” college football writer Brett McMurphy said.
Nix would need a massive second half and a comeback victory to have any shot of winning the prestigious college football award.
Can he do it?
