A cold front coming up from Tasmania is set to make for a wet weekend on the mainland after a dry start to the month.
New South Wales and Queensland have been under cloud cover for the past two weeks and its not expected to let up this weekend either.
A series of cold fronts crossing Tasmania will bring rain, hail and even snow to cities along the southern coast which enjoyed unusual warmth in the last fortnight.
Perth is expected to stay historically warm however, after breaking the record for most consecutive May days over 25C which was eight but is now 10 and could go on to reach 16.
Up to now most cities had been recording temperatures up to 4C above average but experts say this will soon end.

Along with the cooler conditions a cold, polar airmass will drop several centimetres of snow across Tasmania and the alps at resort level starting Friday.
Showers will clear up in the two states by Saturday afternoon before more showers come on Sunday.
Strong-to-gale-force winds will rip through Sydney as well over the weekend where rain will continue for a third rolling weekend.
Some of the coldest temperatures of the year are also expected to come for multiple towns and cities.
Mercury will drop below 10C in Sydney for the first time since September on Sunday morning.
In Canberra temperatures will easily drop below freezing.
