Louisville-based Texas Roadhouse is famous for several things: Their fluffy, tender rolls that only get better once you slather them with honey-cinnamon butter. Their powerful Hurricane Margaritas. Their fall-off-the-bone ribs. Their hunger-crushing Texas-sized combos.
But the very best thing about the Texas Roadhouse menu might be something that has been largely flying under the radar… until now.
Back in January, TikTok creators Nate and Sarah Eats (@nateandsaraheats) started a social media flurry when they shared that their local Texas Roadhouse offered eight surprisingly-affordable options for Family Meal Deals. For just $29.99, they scored:
- A family-sized house or Caesar salad
- Two shareable 16-oz. sides (Options include buttered corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, seasoned rice, and steak fries.)
- Fresh baked bread
- 16 “chicken critters” (AKA chicken fingers)
Sarah and Nate opted for steak fries and rice to pair with their salad and fried chicken, and chowed down in the car as they said, “The value here is incredible.”
They claimed it could feed eight people, although in our families, we’d guess it would satisfy four. Either way, at $30, it’s quite a deal.
Raking in more than 5.2 million views and 1,700 comments and counting, followers were captivated too—only to be found frustrated when they noticed variability at their area chain.
“[$]49.99 at my local Texas Roadhouse,” one reported, while another chimed in, “I don’t even see these as an option.” That’s when a savvy fan hopped in to add, “I literally just checked… they do if you start an online order. It’s kind of hidden.”
It wasn’t too hidden for Brittany (@jewelrygirlb) to find it, order the family meal, and share about it on TikTok, smiling as she admits, “Guess who don’t feel like cooking? And guess what we got!”
At this point, she pulls her bag into the frame and proceeds to unpack her meal of corn, steak fries, 12 rolls with cinnamon butter, a massive party pan of salad with four containers of ranch dressing, and four large grilled chicken breasts. We would have lost the Price is Right game if asked to name the price, as all of that came in at $39.99.
Although price and availability varies by location, if your area Texas Roadhouse offers Family Meals, here’s what you need to know:
- It’s available for pick-up orders only.
- To request one, place your order online.
- Look for the “Legendary Features” section of the menu. Ribs, steak, grilled chicken breasts, or fried chicken “critters,” seafood, cheeseburgers, pork chops, and pulled pork are also listed as entree options at select locations.
- Prices typically range from $34.99 (20 chicken critters) to $64.99 (four 8-ounce New York strip steaks). While $65 might seem steep, it’s worth noting that one 8-oz. strip steak meal with two sides will run you about $18.49 plus tax and tip if you dine in, so the family meal will save you at least $10.
- You can opt to add extra shrimp, ribs, iced tea, and/or lemonade for an additional fee, if desired.
- Tax and tip will add to your total bill. (Yes, we recommend that you tip for takeout!)
Whether you don’t feel like waiting for a table, aren’t in the mood to cook tonight, or simply want to outsource the meal prep for your work lunches (a salad with a couple chicken critters, a side of green beans, and a roll is far from a sad desk lunch!), it might be worth checking into whether you can lasso one of these family meals at your roadhouse.
Still, if you’re up for the shopping and cooking, your most affordable bet will probably be to DIY—and we can help! Get a head start with Make-Ahead Yeast Rolls. Then add two mash-ups, Cast-Iron Steak Salad and Green Bean Fries, and an affordable, family-friendly feast is done.
