St. Jude starts defense of PCYAA title against Pace Academy
All eyes will be on defending champion St. Jude Catholic School (SJCS) when the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Season 11 juniors basketball tournament tips off on January 16.
Following their victory in the 10th Invitational Basketball Tournament last year, the Green Knights, now under the guidance of new head coach Luis Nolasco, are determined to maintain their position at the pinnacle.
SJCS, led by Ethan Kaw, will embark on their journey to secure another championship as they face Pace Academy, led by coach Mike Oliver, in the opening match at Uno High School Gym.
The tournament, sponsored by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, will have St. Stephen High School as the host for this season.
The Green Knights anticipate stiff competition from seven other teams, each with aspirations of dethroning them, with the Pacers leading the charge.
The contenders include MGC-New Life Christian Academy coached by James Sia, Philippine Cultural College coached by Lester del Rosario, and Jubilee Christian Academy coached by Benjie Sipin.
The roster for this year’s competition is completed by St. Stephen High School, coached by Steven Tan, Grace Christian College under coach RJ Guevarra, and Uno High School coached by Matthew Yu.
Adding to the excitement, Hope Christian High School joins as a new member of the PCYAA, ready to participate in various sporting disciplines throughout the season.
