Vogue William’s husband Spencer Matthews has declared he is “fit, well, and above all, really happy” as he reassured fans who expressed concern about his appearance
The former Made In Chelsea star who is currently training for an endurance run, has been sharing his progress and fitness journey online.
But he highlighted how some people have been asking why he was “punishing” himself.
The 35-year-old took to Instagram on Tuesday to argued that he is in the best shape of his life while urging others to stop commenting on people’s appearance.
“Every single day on this platform, women write to me expressing concern for my appearance,” he wrote. “They say that I’m too think and that I look sick… One asked why I’m “punishing my body” and most say “hope you’re ok??
“This is a quick note to say that your concern is misplaced and the delivery of that concern is unhealthy. I am fit, well, and above all, really happy.
“In fact, I’m the healthiest I have ever been – enjoying a disciplined routine and am driven with clear goals, training for a World Record endurance run which will hopefully raise a substantial amount of money for people who need it.
“Training for this challenge is NOT punishment, it’s PROGRESS.”
Spencer revealed that ironically he only started receiving comments on his appearance when he began taking his health and fitness seriously.
“Please don’t mistake me pushing myself physically as being unhealthy,” he added. “It’s not. It’s exciting and in my case, makes me feel alive and full of purpose,” he insisted.
“Not once did I ever receive a single message of ‘concern’ when I was a huge problem drinker – overweight and drastically unhealthy. I wouldn’t have wanted it then and I certainly don’t want it now.
“It’s really simple – don’t comment on anyone’s appearance. If someone looks different there is probably a reason for that.
“Mine is that I found a healthy lifestyle.”
The post generated a wave of support from fans who took to the comments section to praise the star.
“Amen to that! And those messages are a HUGE, reason to why the UK is ranked second worse GLOBALLY for mental health! Keep leading the way for others and keep pushing,’ one user wrote.
“Isn’t it funny… when you look after yourself, become focused and work hard for your health suddenly everyone has an opinion on your wellbeing and if you’re ‘OK’?!
“But if you post getting on it, neglecting your health and fitness, joking about eating all the cake and pies – no one concerned about you then… you’re a legend,” another added.
“You are one awesome individual,” added another, “You aspire to keep achieving phenomenal goals and you do it. What an inspiration to your family and friends. And we love you xx.”
