Sony Makes Change to PSN FAQ Following Helldivers 2 Controversy

  • Sony quietly changes PSN FAQs amidst Helldivers 2 controversy.
  • Helldivers 2 community feels betrayed by major account linking change.

Amid the ongoing Helldivers 2 controversy, Sony has made a small but crucial change to the PlayStation Network’s FAQs. While Helldivers 2 has been an enormous success in its initial launch period, some gamers have been less than pleased by developer Arrowhead Game Studios and publisher Sony over the last couple of days.

Helldivers 2 is a game that, in the period after its release, has built up a ton of goodwill with its community. The developer is frequently speaking to players about what they’d like to see in the game, and is bringing consistent content updates to make the game feel constantly fresh. However, when Helldivers 2 announced a major change to Steam and PlayStation account linking, many gamers in the community felt betrayed, and the aftermath hasn’t been pretty.

As reported by DualShockers, Redditors have noticed that Sony has made a small change to the PSN FAQs. With the question, “Do I have to sign in to PSN to play a PlayStation game on PC?” it was previously stated that this was “optional” in the FAQs. However, in the quietly revised answer, Sony claims that “Some PlayStation games may require you sign in and link to an account for PSN.” Although Helldivers 2 is being review bombed in the wake of this controversy, this change could imply that Sony is sticking to its guns on this particular issue.

Sony Changes PSN FAQ in Wake of Helldivers 2 Controversy

It will certainly be interesting to see how the situation continues to develop. Helldivers 2’s director has already responded to the review bombing of the game, describing it as “warranted.” However, it remains unclear how much of the decision is actually down to Arrowhead Game Studios, or if it is being led by Sony. Regardless, the community doesn’t seem like it will back down here, so it’ll be fascinating to see if player numbers are massively affected when the changes take effect on May 6.

While the controversy is definitely a blow to Helldivers 2 and its strong reputation, hopefully, the game continues to deliver great content to players. One recent Helldivers 2 leak even hints at the destruction of one planet, which would be a big change to the ongoing Galactic War. It’s important that players always take these leaks with a grain of salt, however. There are many concepts that have been leaked in the game so far, and not everything seen makes all the way to release.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is a third-person cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Games Studios for the PC and PlayStation 5 where players take control of a Helldiver set to protect the citizens of Super Earth by traveling to hostile alien worlds and destroying threats. Players undergo missions, defeat enemies, and use special items called Stratagems to help turn the tide of battle in this punishing release.
