One of the biggest trends to hit over the last few years is the upgrade to dipping sauces. What was once a simple ingredient that you had on the side, of the main dish has now taken the spotlight in many places, and sauces aren’t slowing down in 2024.
Now, Sonic Drive-Thru is launching a new sauce, and they have changed their fries to pair with it. This is the first time they’ve changed their fry recipe in over a decade, and we can’t wait to try the new recipe.
Grrovy Fries and Sauce Are Coming
With the “anything goes” mentality associated with what you use to top your fries, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing fries made for dips. That’s what Sonic is doing.
Sonic announced that it has updated its fries, not only in the flavor but also in how well they dip. Sonic’s new Groovy Fries and Groovy Sauce will be in Sonic locations nationwide by mid-May.
According to the company, these new fries will have grooves designed to grip dips and sauces better than the old fries and to celebrate that they will be releasing the new Groovy Sauce. This new sauce combines the flavors of ranch and herbs with the mild spice of Sriracha, which sounds amazing, but even better- the sauce will be free with every fry order!
Say Goodbye to the Old Fries
Of course, as many people have noticed, these new fries are crinkle-cut fries, but they are different from the fries Sonic has had in the past. The Groovy Fries will reportedly completely replace the current fries, so if crinkle cut is your jam, these are for you. If not, we offer our condolences.
If you don’t like crinkle-cut fries (they do tend to be less crispy), you can still try the new dip with Sonic’s tots (those are always crispy and golden) or with their famous onion rings. Let’s be real, those outside the fries, anyway! There was no word on whether or not you could order the new sauce without the fries.
We can’t wait until these are available to try, and we are eager to find out if they will be better than the old fries Sonic has had for years. With the new Groovy sauce taking center stage, though, it may not matter.
If you want even more fries, Taco Bell is bringing back its Nacho Fries, but they are also releasing them with a new sauce. Those will be out this week.
