Sanrio Releases Gorgeous Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Watch

One of Sanrio’s most iconic characters is celebrating her 50th anniversary this year with year-round surprises. Now, fans have the perfect excuse to hoard kawaii keepsakes, starting with a special Hello Kitty commemorative watch.

Hello Kitty fans are always spoiled for choice when it comes to collectible merchandise. To mark the character’s 50th anniversary, Sanrio recently partnered with Uniqlo to launch a special retro-inspired clothing line. The collection is part of a year-long celebration of events and brand collaborations, with many more to come. Via its official store, Sanrio has also released a commemorative watch specially designed for all kawaii enthusiasts. The timepiece features the charming aesthetic typical of the Hello Kitty brand: pretty colors, cutesy accents and an image of Hello Kitty prominent in the design.

The watch features a simple aesthetic that’s perfect for everyday use or casual attire. The main dial is Hello Kitty’s face complete with her yellow nose, sparkling eyes and iconic ribbon bow with accents of pink hearts. Her whiskers also frame both sides of the dial. The chic design is accented by slim dial markers and watch hands, framed by a gold-colored round casing that complements the pink (vegan leather) wristband. The commemorative edition is also indicated with a “Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary” inscription on the watch face (above the six o’clock mark) and on the stainless steel back. An ideal gift for Hello Kitty fans, the watch ships in a pink limited-edition box with gold-colored inlays on top.

Sanrio Expands Hello Kitty’s Online Appeal

With a running theme of “Let’s make friends with the future,” Sanrio has dubbed the celebration as “The Future in Our Eyes” that invites “gazes into the future through Kitty’s eyes and witness the sparkle and excitement that lies ahead with her.” Sanrio has also launched several digital promotions to expand the brand’s appeal to younger generations; fans can meet Hello Kitty at her themed world in Roblox or her dedicated environment in the Zepeto app. A location-based augmented reality app also allowed users to interact with her beside popular landmarks in Tokyo, London, Paris, New York and Taiwan.
