The safety and culture of Boeing, one of its biggest suppliers, will be the main focus of two hearings in Washington tomorrow morning. To make things more complicated for us, they will actually overlap, partially starting within about an hour of each other. Let’s get more context now from Bloomberg’s Tyler Kendall in DC Tyler. Hey, Scarlett. So as of now, we are not expecting Boeing CEO David Calhoun to appear on Capitol Hill for these hearings despite being asked to buy 2 separate committees who are investigating these mishaps at Boeing. Now, I did have the chance to speak with the chair of the Senate Homeland Security panel that is leading one of these investigations that Senator Richard Blumenthal. He’s a Democrat from Connecticut. He tells me that Boeing is fully cooperating with these investigations that that they are planning to bring Calhoun to the Hill, hopefully later this year. It’s important to note that Calhoun actually did pay lawmakers a visit back in January after that 737 Max 9 door plug blowout. He met with lawmakers in private. But many senators say they need to hear from Calhoun again in a more public arena. That includes Senator Josh Hawley. He’s a Republican from Missouri. I caught up with him on the Hill earlier today. Take a listen to what he told me. What is going on at Boeing? What are they doing to prioritize safety? Why have these planes been in the air? I think he owes There’s a lot of questions here and clearly the public safety has been severely compromised. So I think he needs to answer for what he’s done. Holly will be participating in one of these hearings on Capitol Hill tomorrow. There are two The 1st is before the Senate Commerce Committee. It will feature UH some safety aviation experts after an FAA report raised some questions about Boeing safety and reporting culture. The second hearing will be before Blumenthal’s panel. It will feature a Boeing whistleblower, A longtime engineer, who alleges that Boeing took some shortcuts in the manufacturing of some of its biggest airlines, including the 787 Dreamliner, Romaine and Scarlett. Boeing denies those claims. Is Boeing going to have a presence at either one of these hearings? Are we expecting to see the CEO or anyone else there? As of now, David Calhoun is not expected to appear. However, Senator Blumenthal told me that they are fully cooperating with this investigation and that he will likely come later this year. We also know that many of these lawmakers are going to ask for some of the airlines to appear to and to talk about how they are also ensuring public safety in terms of these aircrafts.
