A plane due to arrive in Belfast from Birmingham has been forced to return to the airport after reports of a “suspicious object” on board.
The airport has now been closed and a bomb squad have been tasked to the runway.
Passengers have also been seen being removed from the plane and escorted along the runway by police with four bomb disposal units on the scene.
The Aer Lingus flight was forced to return to its starting point at the UK airport, which has now officially closed down “until further notice”.
Aer Lingus and airport authorities have been contacted for further comment.
