LSU wide receiver Khai Prean is hoping to catch on elsewhere.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Wednesday that Prean has entered the transfer portal with a ‘do not contact’ tag. Nakos noted that Florida State, Mississippi State and Auburn were finalists to land him as a freshman.
The four-star recruit out of high school was the No. 15-ranked athlete in the 2023 class, per 247 Sports. He signed his letter of intent with the Tigers on Dec. 21, 2022.
Late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s spring game, he showed off his speed with a 64-yard touchdown on a vertical route.
Prean’s pathway to meaningful playing time at LSU was seemingly blocked, with Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton, Aaron Anderson, and transfers CJ Daniels and Zavion Thomas among the wideouts ahead of him on the team’s depth chart.
Fifth-year senior Lacy had 30 receptions for 558 yards and seven touchdowns last season, serving as LSU’s third wide receiver behind future NFL pros Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.
Hilton only had 12 receptions last season but is a former four-star recruit and the fifth-ranked wide receiver in the 2021 class.
Daniels spent the past four seasons at Liberty and had his best season in 2023, finishing the year with 55 receptions, 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Thomas joined the Tigers following two seasons with SEC rival Mississippi State.
Last year, he had 40 receptions, 503 yards and one touchdown.
