Scottie Schleffer’s success in 2024 has proven lucrative for those within his inner circle, as caddie Ted Scott has picked up a seven-figure fortune this season – outstripping Rory McIlroy’s earning in that period.
The American is currently enjoying a spellbinding run of form, with four wins in his last five starts coming with his latest at South Carolina. Perhaps his most significant victory in this bumper year for the world number one came in the form of his second Masters crown, which he secured earlier this month.
The second time the 27-year-old has had the green jacket bestowed upon him during his glittering career, his heroics have naturally left him well remunerated too. In fact, his latest triumph at Augusta National saw him pick up £2.8million ($3.5m), while his win at South Carolina added another £2.89m ($3.6m) to his coffers.
Staggeringly, that also meant that caddie Scott was made £289,000 ($360,000) richer, as he takes roughly ten percent of Schleffer’s winnings from tournaments. In total, this means that the caddie – who previously worked alongside Bubba Watson – has earned some £1.48m ($1.8m) over the course of this campaign.
Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that Scott has earned more than golf superstar McIlroy, who has picked up £1.37m ($1.7m) during the season so far. Moreover, having taken the job as caddie in 2022, it is estimated that Scott has earned approximately £4m ($5m) over the course of the last couple of years.
Having won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship alongside the Masters this term, Schleffer has picked up £40m ($50m) in that time. Speaking previously about Scott’s role, peer Paul Tesori told Golf Digest: “Teddy and Scottie talked for quite awhile before they went to work for him.
“Scottie’s young and has had a bit of a habit of getting a little angry on the golf course, and maybe even a little angry toward his caddie. Ted being a veteran, almost 50 years old, being out here for so long, he was able to say: ‘I want to come work for you, but you have got to promise me that you’re going to work on these areas.’ And not only did Scottie say yes, he has absolutely done it.”

Rory McIlroy’s disappointment with his struggles has been palpable in recent times
As for Schleffer, he has spoken glowingly about his heroics over the course of the season so far, which has saw him etch his name into folklore as a multiple-time Masters winner. Clearly overjoyed at his recent form, he said: I was able to go home for a couple days and celebrate.
“I didn’t really put much thought into it. I had committed to playing the tournament here, it was part of the plan, so we stuck to the plan,” he said of his experience at South Carolina. “I talked about it at the beginning of the week – I didn’t show up here just to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations.
“On the course, I think the last month or so I’ve been as good mentally as I have in a long time and I think that’s why I am seeing some of the results. This week could be a good example of starting off and looking at the leaderboard on Thursday and everybody is just making birdie after birdie and I’m sitting there over par and I’ve had a shank on the day.
The man from New Jersey added: “I just did my best to stay patient and wait until I got hot. Had a nice finish to the round on Thursday and then had a really solid Friday where I felt like I played better than I scored, and then I had Saturday where I just played some really good golf.”
