Find out why you may be seeing these critters crawling around your home.
TEXAS, USA — People across Central Texas are seeing scorpions pop up in their homes! From crawling inside their beds to submerging themselves in toilets, people are finding the creepy critters everywhere in their homes!
Down the dirt roads in Coryell County, Glen Seago finds scorpions all around his barndominium. He typically finds dozens throughout the week in places you would least expect.
“They’re dropping down from the ceiling like SEAL Team Six,” Seago said.
He posted on social media about the creepy crawlers taking over, not realizing how many people were stuck in the same situation.
Seago has been researching scorpions and says their main food source is crickets.
“If you got dead crickets, you got scorpions,” Seago said.
The cold and dry weather could be bringing them in as well because they thrive in warmer temperatures.
Seago says scorpions come out all during the day and can be different sizes.
And don’t forget, they sting!
“I was actually getting into bed and it stung me twice,” Seago said. “I was yelling like a little girl. Put baking soda on it, and you couldn’t see it the next morning. I decided to build a rough cedar headboard, and I haven’t seen any there.”
A couple miles down is another home owner, Spencer Curtis, who has also had terrifying encounters with the critter.
“I felt some kind of tickle,” Curtis said. “I just slowly lifted the blanket off my leg, and a big scorpion was just crawling up my leg.”
Curtis has even spotted one submerged in water.
“I just went to the restroom and looked at the toilet seat,” Curtis added. “There was one just like chilling in the water.”
It might hard going to sleep not knowing if you have scorpions in your home, but there is an easy way to spot them!
“To kind of help people if they’re feeling kind of sketched out about scorpions lurking around, they glow if you hit them with the black light,” Curtis said. “It’s pretty strong, so you can see them from like across the room.”
So what can you do before it’s too late?
“Put something in your weep holes,” Curtis said. “Caulk everything around the house, and then caulk all your baseboards. This is our house. It’s not their house.”
Scorpions take about a year to get rid of, but Seago says there are good ways to prevent them.
Demand CS works the best, and scorpions don’t like cedar, lavender oil and peppermint.
