Gov. Greg Abbott skydives with 106-year-old World War II veteran

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott went skydiving in San Marcos on Monday. Joining him was 106-year-old Alfred Blaschke, who built aircraft parts during World War II.

Both men woke up bright and early to jump with Skydive Spaceland San Marcos. Abbott said they were just above 8,000 feet when they jumped out of the plane.

“It’s completely different when you’re out of the plane, when you’re in the air yourself. And it is a sense of freedom and excitement. It’s just something that is really incomparable,” Abbott said.

The governor – who is 66 – said this was the first time he had ever gone skydiving.

Blaschke, on the other hand, has skydived several times. According to The Texas Tribune, he went skydiving for the first time on his 100th birthday in 2017. When he did it again in 2020, he broke the world record for the oldest man to do a tandem parachute jump.
