Being an aunty is a very privileged position – you get all the fun of your nieces and nephews, but you don’t have to deal with the downside, like sleepless nights and sicknesses.
There is one negative to not being a full-time parent though: you don’t get to see the little ones all the time. And it’s something Bonnie Ryan is feeling by the bucket load right now.

The beauty businesswoman moved to San Francisco with her husband John last year, but she’s made a big effort to stay very involved with her nephew Wolf’s upbringing back in Ireland.

Her sister Lottie’s little fella will be three this year, but by the sounds of things he already knows a thing or two about technology.
On the phone to his aunty in her apartment on the west coast of America, Wolf managed to melt Bonnie’s heart. ‘I just got off facetime there to Wolf,’ she began. ‘Oh my God. Like, he’s actually the best ever. Like, all he has to do is just smile at me and like, I’m instantly in a better mood.’

Bonnie said the little guy knows what to do to keep his aunty sweet. ‘He was watching The Jungle Book on the couch and I was like “Wolf” because obviously he’s distracted watching the telly, but I was like “Wolf can I have a kiss? And he stops watching it gets the camera and kisses it.’
It was all too much for the 31-year-old, who had to get her sister to step in, otherwise the tears would come! ‘I was actually like, “no Lottie stop, take it away! I’m going to start crying!” I love him so much!’

Thank heavens for technology as it’s keeping Bonnie connected with her family here in Ireland. She’s remarkably close to her mum Moira too, and is excited to welcome her to America for some mum-daughter quality time this week.
She’s also relying Facetime to organise her mum for the trip. Bonnie admitted that her next step would be a call to her mum to make sure she has her passport and understands all the instructions for their holiday.

It’ll be the third year in a row that Bonnie won’t be celebrating Valentine’s Day with her husband John, but we think he understands, all things considered!
