Royal Palace appears to 'throw shade' at Meghan Markle with their social media post promoting jam

Subtle trolling isn’t anything new on social media, but when it’s Buckingham Palace it can be a bit shocking.

The royal family’s Instagram account has been accused of pushing their “finest” strawberry preserve just as Meghan Markle promoted her new line of jam. The Duchess of Sussex recently announced she was creating a lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which included a line of jams.

On Wednesday, the palace posted an 18-second video set to a Mozart song that showed four ways to use their strawberry preserve. The caption read: “Our Strawberry Preserve is made using only the finest berries and is delicious served in a variety of ways. Some of our favourite ways are shown here: On a scone as part of a cream tea, On a crumpet, With a croissant, On Toast. How do you enjoy your strawberry preserve? Let us know in the comments!”

In the comments on the post for the jam that retails at £3.95, people pointed out the possible subtle shade towards Meghan. “Wait! Did the Palace just subtly troll Ms. Montecito?!” one social media user wrote, referencing the California neighbourhood that Meghan lives in with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, Archie, four, and Lilbet, two.

Some Instagram users were not amused by the possible trolling. One wrote: “Very tacky, low blow, that was entirely immature and [unnecessary]. I thought Buckingham [Palace] was supposed to exude class and grace. Guess not.”

“I will enjoy the Duchess of [Sussex’s] jam before your massed produced slight on her. You show your true colors. I [used] to respect the Royal Family and [now] no longer do,” another added.

Meanwhile on Meghan’s social media, people have been slamming her for the jam gift basket she gave some of her celebrity friends, one of whom was momager Kris Jenner.

Kris posted picture of the basket on her Instagram, thanking Meghan and American Rivera Orchard. The snap showed card with Kris’ name on it, a jar of jam, and some lemons.

Meghan was roasted online for the presentation as fans noticed the lemons looked less than fresh. “Must of been a late delivery…lemons look wilted?” someone wrote on Reddit.
