Cork City’s home of Turner’s Cross will be open for business again next month after venue owners Munster FA confirmed that work on the pitch would be completed.
The Munster FA said three weeks ago that due to the poor state of the pitch, the stadium – which is home for Cork City’s senior men’s and women’s teams as well as hosting MFA fixtures – would close indefinitely.
That forced City to move their fixtures around in the men’s First Division and women’s Premier Division but the teams managed by Tim Clancy and Danny Murphy can now plan for being at home again. By the time the men’s team host Wexford, Clancy’s team will have played four successive away games. Cork’s next fixture, away to Finn Harps on Friday, has a 6pm kickoff due to a floodlight issue in Finn Park.
“The club is pleased to have been advised that Turner’s Cross Stadium will reopen on Wednesday 1 May, following recent works to the pitch,” Cork City said today.
“As a result, this means that our first game back at Turner’s Cross will be our Women’s Premier Division game against Treaty United, which will be the first time a Women’s Premier Division fixture has been broadcast live from Turner’s Cross.
“We are hoping for a big crowd for the occasion and we are calling on all City fans to get behind Danny Murphy and his team on the day. Our first Men’s First Team game back at Turner’s Cross will follow just a couple of days later, as we welcome Wexford FC to Leeside on Bank Holiday Monday at 5pm.”
