The body of a woman aged in her mid 50s has been discovered trapped under a car in a housing estate in a Co Wexford village.
The grim discovery was made late Tuesday morning in a small housing estate in Castlebridge ten minutes from Wexford town. The alarm was raised by neighbours who discovered the woman’s body trapped under a car in a driveway outside one of the homes.
The housing estate was sealed off and Gardaí erected a tent around the driveway as horrified locals looked on. While an ambulance was called to the scene, it was quickly established that the woman was deceased.
A Garda source confirmed that the body of a female had been recovered and stated that they were treating the matter as “a tragic accident” and that “nothing suspicious is currently suspected”.
A garda forensics team was to carry out a full examination of the scene on Tuesday afternoon.
It is understood that the keys were in the ignition of the car at the time of the tragic discovery and gardaí are reportedly operating on the assumption that the car rolled and somehow tragically pinned or trapped the woman beneath.
A full investigation into the matter is ongoing.
