For the third time in four seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves in the postseason. For the seventh straight year, though, they failed to win a playoff game.
While head coach Mike Tomlin has long been known as a consistently great head coach, having never fielded a team below .500, Pittsburgh’s inability to truly be title contenders has hindered them over the last few seasons. That’s why, after two disappointing seasons from the young Kenny Pickett, the Steelers have started over at quarterback with Russell Wilson.
Can Wilson end Tomlin’s streak without a playoff win? Or are there bigger problems going on in Pittsburgh? Their schedule, as always, could tell the whole picture.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ Schedule and Opponents
We don’t yet know Pittsburgh’s exact schedule as that information has not been released. We will have to wait for the official NFL schedule release to find out exactly when the Steelers will face the following teams.
Home: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, New York Jets
Road: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders
Steelers’ Strength of Schedule
Pro Football Network’s own Dallas Robinson has the Steelers owning the fourth-hardest schedule in football this upcoming season.
With each AFC North member finishing over .500 last year, and contests against playoff teams like the Cowboys, Eagles, and Chiefs, the Steelers have their work cut out for them this year. They also have hard games against teams with great quarterbacks like the Falcons with Kirk Cousins, the Chargers with Justin Herbert, and the Jets with Aaron Rodgers.
In short, there’s no guarantee Wilson will be the best quarterback on the field for Pittsburgh in many of the team’s games.
Steelers Record Prediction: 10-7
Despite the hard schedule, it’s easy to see how the Steelers could play well enough to reach the playoffs once again. Wilson working with Arthur Smith as the new Steelers play-caller could open the door for a big offensive season, and the defense has the potential to be elite.

There’s also the very real notion that Tomlin’s teams usually play up to competition and play down to bad teams. Look at last year’s losses to the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals as primary examples.
With so many tough opponents, the Steelers don’t have the luxury of playing “down” to anyone. That alone might be enough to keep them in pace with the rest of the AFC North with the Browns, Bengals, and Ravens all holding their own championship aspirations.
Biggest Matchups of the Year
The AFC North sent three teams, including the Steelers, to the playoffs last season. While the Browns and Ravens could be seen as organizations likely to take a step back, the Bengals getting Joe Burrow back leaves the Steelers with plenty of good teams to go up against this season.
Outside of the obvious divisional games, home games against the Chiefs, Cowboys, Chargers, and Jets will do Pittsburgh no favors. There’s a reason they have one of the toughest schedules in football this upcoming season.
