Persona 5: The Phantom X’s New Minigame is a Must for P6

  • The musical minigame in Persona 5: The Phantom X could be a fun addition to Persona 6.
  • Persona games have a history of amazing soundtracks, making a rhythm minigame a good fit.
  • Despite limited reach, Persona 5: The Phantom X is generating interest and could inspire Persona 6.

If Persona 6 is looking to add some extra fun to the game, then Persona 5: The Phantom X has a minigame that should not be ignored. The spin-off is making several interesting moves with the Persona that are worth watching. These ideas are a part of the reason that, despite Persona 5: The Phantom X still having limited reach, there is a sizable audience taking interest in it and watching how it develops. It could even turn out to be a solid inspiration for Persona 6. At the very least, one minigame should be taken into consideration.

While there isn’t an international release for Persona 5: The Phantom X confirmed yet, the game looks interesting enough that one would make sense. While the game has a new crew of Phantom Thieves, they will once again be splitting their time between the real world and the Metaverse that the original Phantom Thieves battled through in Persona 5. There are also a fair amount of new features that make the game more distinctive among the series, such as the Phantom Idols and the game’s gacha system. Persona 5: The Phantom X looks to be one of the series’ most unique entries to date.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Adds a Rhythm Minigame

One feature that was recently revealed is Persona 5: The Phantom X’s rhythm mini-game. In general, it follows the tradition set by other rhythm games such as Guitar Hero and Fortnite’s Fortnite Festival. The player is given a note tracker that sends down notes following the beat of the song, and the player has to hit the notes as precisely as possible. This is helped by a selection of songs from Persona 5’s quality soundtrack, such as Last Surprise and Rivers in the Desert. It looks like it could be a fun side game to play when not tackling the story missions.

The Persona Series Has Had Musical Spin-Offs Before

It’s an eclectic idea, but one that has the potential to be an entertaining new feature in Persona 6. After all, there is a fair amount of precedent for the idea. Spin-offs such as Persona 4: Dancing All Night have already sent the series to the rhythm genre before, so many Persona fans have likely seen the characters in such a context. Likewise, Persona 4 had a side plot with the Investigation Team performing a band at one point during the game. Persona 5: The Phantom X is only the latest hint that justifies Persona 6 adding a musical minigame.

The Persona Games Are Full Of Amazing Soundtracks

Persona 6 has one more big reason to feature a rhythm minigame of its own, and that is the music of the Persona series. Across several games, Persona has consistently had high-quality soundtracks, with many of the best tracks even making it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even before Persona 5, tracks like Reach Out to the Truth and Burn My Dread provided excellent musical accompaniment. It could even pull music from other Shin Megami Tensei titles such as Soul Hackers 2. Persona is a series that has a history of excellent soundtracks, and Persona 6 has a chance to show respect to the series’ music.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is only the latest hint that justifies Persona 6 adding a musical minigame.

Persona 5: The Phantom X’s music mini-game deserves a new incarnation in Persona 6. While there are many ways for Atlus to improve Persona, making sure that players have plenty to do is a good way to keep the games interesting. Minigames may not be as vital to the overall game as the story and battle system, but they’re still fun diversions that are worth revisiting in the series’ future, be it Persona 6 or later. Persona 5: The Phantom X’s musical minigame could be an excellent fit for Persona 6.
