‘People waited even in the heat … This is biggest strength of Congress’: Geniben Thakor
What was your typical campaigning day like?
I started at 7 am from home and at times reached home by midnight. In such a hot weather, and peak marriage season, despite being behind schedule, people waited for me. This is the biggest strength of the Congress.
What did you eat while campaigning?
Whatever people offered, like Parle G (biscuits). But due to people’s affection and love, I did not even feel hungry.
Before leaving home, if possible, I had my breakfast of bhakri, mug (green gram) and milk. Later in the day, I did not care whether I got food or not because we should not bother people. I ate food after reaching home late at night. After meeting all workers and leaders it got late. Even then I did not feel uncomfortable or any weakness.
Did you have guidelines for party workers in this scorching heat?
I did not take any additional care for the heat; the environment too was with us. Be it heat or cold we are fighting for people. We don’t bother senior leaders and workers. And no one complains about anything, they understand.
Did your family members canvass for you?
I have a small family of one son who is married. During elections, be it managing my office or other work, my family did it. My family has never interfered in my work. They prefer to remain out of the limelight.
How often did you check your mobile phone or social media while campaigning?
My driver and campaign team handled my phone calls. Unless important, they managed the calls and everyone understood that I was busy campaigning.
