Defensive Lineman Gordy Sulfsted Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame has added another member to its highly ranked 2025 recruiting class, this time landing a commitment from Ohio defensive lineman Gordy Sulfsted. The standout from Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier committed to the Fighting Irish program over Wisconsin, Duke and Louisville.
Sulfsted is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he earned third-team All-Ohio honors after racking up 41 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and three pass break ups. It was his first year as a starter for the Bombers after an offseason in which he gained over 20 pounds. The 6-5, 250-pound defender plays on the edge for St. Xavier, but he's projected as an interior player for Notre Dame.
This is the fourth defensive lineman to commit to Notre Dame in the 2025 class, with Sulfsted joining defensive ends Christopher Burgess and Joseph Reiff, and defensive tackle Davion Dixon.
A consensus three-star recruit, Sulfsted is a projection pickup for Notre Dame. An edge player for St. Xavier, Sulfsted is being recruiting to play inside at Notre Dame. His 250-pound frame looks to have the potential to easily grow into a 290+ pound player and eventually look a lot like current Notre Dame starting defensive tackle Rylie Mills, who was also a 250-pound edge player at the same age.
The St. Xavier defender has a quality offer list, earning offers from the Irish, Miami (Fla.), Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, Louisville, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Stanford, Duke, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Virginia, Minnesota, Rutgers, Boston College, Indiana and Vanderbilt. An outstanding student, Sulfsted also earned an offer from Harvard and Princeton.
Sulfsted's father - Alex Sulfsted - was a sixth round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2001. The elder Sulfsted played at Miami, Ohio during his college days, and he spent four seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs, Washington Redskins and the Cincinnati Bengals.
The younger Sulfsted also plays on the St. Xavier basketball team, where he averaged over 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game the last two seasons.
Sulfsted is the 21st player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2025 class. He joins big time quarterback Deuce Knight, running backs Daniel Anderson and Justin Thurman, wide receivers Elijah Burress, Shaun Terry and Jerome Bettis Jr., tight end James Flanigan, offensive lineman Owen Strebig, Will Black and Matty Augustine, Money defender Dominik Hulak, linebackers Anthony Sacca and Josiah Kia, Golden, Thomas and safeties Ivan Taylor and Ethan Long.
