After the astronomical success of Barbie, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment is taking on an exciting new project. Produced by Robbie’s company, the film adaptation of Rob Liefeld’s comic Avengelyne will be directed by Olivia Wilde.
Per Deadline, there is a film rights auction currently underway for the Margot Robbie-produced, Olivia Wilde-helmed Avengelyne. The story follows an angel, fallen on Earth, who is now dedicated to fighting the forces of evil. Avengelyne was once a fierce warrior of Heaven, even facing off against the Devil himself, but when she’s tricked into questioning God’s love for mortals, she is cast out of the Holy Kingdom. On Earth, she has lost most of her angelic powers, save for her monstrous strength and magical blood, which can be used in extraordinary ways if imbued by the power of Bible verses. She fights demons, and may well be humanity’s last hope in the coming Armageddon.

Copyright law can be tricky, but the Invincible team managed to make the major crossover happen kind of.
“Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable,” explained Liefeld. “A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt in order to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humor amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey.”
Will Avengelyne Find the Same Success in Theaters as Deadpool?
Liefeld created Avengelyne, whose comics were first published in 1995, but he is also the mind behind one of pop culture’s favorite characters: Deadpool. The Merc with a Mouth was also Liefeld’s brainchild, and has recently enjoyed frequent big screen appearances. Ryan Reynolds has played Wade Wilson/Deadpool in three movies –Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and the much-panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There is currently a third Deadpool film in development which will see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine, and hopefully redeem the two characters’ big screen history.

Although Olivia Wilde’s career started as an actress, appearing in the TV show House, and in films like Tron: Legacy, she has made quite a name for herself as a director in recent years. Her debut feature Booksmart (2019) was a fresh take on the coming of age film and received the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Most recently, Wilde directed Don’t Worry Darling (2022). The mystery thriller, starring former boy band icon Harry Styles along with Oppenheimer’s Florence Pugh, premiered at 79th Venice International Film Festival.
Margot Robbie, of course, just starred in and produced Barbie –which turned out to be a massive payday for her. The Greta Gerwig-directed film was a global sensation and the top-grossing feature of 2023. She has also appeared in Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Amsterdam alongside Christian Bale and John David Washington, and has played Harley Quinn in three live-action movies –Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad.
Will Margot Robbie Also Star in Avengelyne?
After Barbie’s success, she, along with her husband Tom Ackerley, founded LuckyChap Entertainment, which is set to produce Avengelyne. LuckyChap describes itself as a female-focused film and television production company. It has been rumored that Robbie will also star in the film, but her team has denied the claim.
