Reports recently emerged about the NHL leaning into the Michigan/Ohio border war after scheduling an outdoor game in Columbus, OH between the Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The game will be played on March 1, 2025, at Ohio Stadium, the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The NHL’s first game at the historic Ohio Stadium will come just a few months after the Buckeyes football team participates in a conference matchup at a historic baseball venue. The Buckeyes will travel to the Windy City to take on the Northwestern Wildcats on Nov. 16th, 2024.
However, due to the renovations of Northwestern’s home turf, Ryan Field, the Wildcats will travel south to Wrigleyville to host the Buckeyes at Wrigley Field. Northwestern has a notable history of playing at the ‘friendly confines’, but this will be the Buckeyes’ first contest at Wrigley Field.
Other venues being explored as options include Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears; Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers, could also host one game,” Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors wrote.
