Danny O’Brien promoted as Penn State’s quarterbacks coach
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – Offensive graduate assistant Danny O’Brien has been promoted to be Penn State’s quarterbacks coach, per the team’s website and O’Brien’s social media page. O’Brien has spent the past three years as a member of the Nittany Lions coaching staff.
O’Brien played quarterback in the late 2000s for then-Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin.
“I think he’s a rising star in the profession,” Franklin said last summer.
After O’Brien wrapped his collegiate playing career in 2013, he played in the Canadian Football League for six years and won a Grey Cup. O’Brien would rejoin Franklin in Happy Valley in 2021 as an offensive analyst.
Now, O’Brien will play a bigger role into Drew Allar’s development, a year after he passed for 2,631 yards and 25 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions.
