Papi Zothwane impressed with knowledge from CAF B licence course

The 42-year-old is among 25 coaches from the country’s two professional men’s divisions – including Chippa United technical director Morgan Mammila, and several others from the Hollywoodbets Super League partaking in the course hosted by SAFA Ekurhuleni.

Zothwane, who is now at Black Leopards and working as an assistant to Solly Luvhengo, says this is one of the areas of the game that coaches need to familiarise themselves with.

“We learn a lot, and whoever is here is different, because most teams don’t have the luxury to bring refereeing instructors [to educate coaches],” said Zothwane.

“So for SAFA to bring the refereeing instructors to make the laws clearer, because sometimes as coaches on the bench, we’ll fight with the referees, who went to school and understand the laws of the game.

“Sometimes when you get to these classes, you get the knowledge that we didn’t know, and say, ‘Oh, I was wrong in terms of that decision.’

“If I can make an example with the Swallows goal, and some will say, ‘No, it was offside,’ but if you understand the laws, it was not an offside.

“So, it’s courses like this that uplift your skills and knowledge to take things to another level, and personally, I’m happy to be here because it takes my knowledge to another level… I can just take this to empower the players that I’m working with, with the knowledge that I’ve got.”
