Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch transformed into convicted killers Joseph ‘Lyle’ Menendéz and Erik Menendéz in their first sighting on the Los Angeles set of Netflix’s Monsters anthology on Thursday.
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendéz Story will recreate how the siblings used shotguns to murder their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez, at their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989.
Nicholas took a temporary leave of absence from his Daytime Emmy-winning role of Spencer Cassadine in ABC soap opera General Hospital in order to take on the role of Lyle.
The 24-year-old Texan looked like the epitome of rich and preppy wearing a white knit sweater over a matching Polo shirt, black shorts, tube socks, and boat shoes.
Cooper was also sporting a white Polo shirt beneath a white-and-green pullover, a black jacket emblazoned with a Dallas arm patch, black cuffed slacks, and boat shoes sans socks in order to better embody Erik.

The 27-year-old Woodland Hills native – last seen in Peacock’s 2022 slasher They/Them and Momentum Pictures’ 2022 horror film Swallowed – was listening to old-school Apple EarPods Headphones as he headed inside a white truck.
On May 1, Netflix unveiled the first teaser of Monsters, which featured the real-life 911 call made by a distraught Lyle accusing ‘someone’ of killing his parents.
Lyle and Erik claimed they only killed their parents out of fear that their music executive father would kill them after they threatened to expose him for years of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse.
But the prosecution argued that the Menéndez Brothers only murdered their parents to inherit the family fortune, and the fact that they went on a $700K spending spree before their arrests didn’t help the optics.
Lyle and Erik were first tried separately in the first 1993 trial, but both juries deadlocked causing a mistrial.
The Menéndez Brothers were tried together in the second trial spanning 1995-96, and they were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Since 2018, the New York-born 55-year-old and the New Jersey-born 53-year-old have been serving their sentences together at the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, CA – the same state prison that houses Suge Knight and Sirhan Sirhan.
Despite this, Lyle has managed to marry two women since his incarceration – Anna Eriksson and Rebecca Sneed – in 1996 and 2003, and Erik tied the knot with Tammi Ruth Saccoman (who reportedly calls him ‘Earth Dad’) in 1999.

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is nominated for seven trophies – including outstanding limited or anthology series – at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, which air January 15 on Fox.
