The Florida Gators have struggled to compete at a championship level over the past several seasons. The Gators have not had a winning season in the last three years.
Next season could also be a make-it-or-break-it season for Florida head coach Billy Napier. During this time, not many things have gone well, but the Gators received huge news on Thursday that could help turn the tide.
The No. 1 ranked interior offensive lineman in the 2023 class, Jason Zandamela, announced he would be transferring from the USC Trojans and return home to play for the Gators.
Zandamela signed with USC as a four-star prospect out of Clearwater, Florida. He was the No. 46 overall prospect and No. 9 player in Florida, according to 247Sports.
He will have four years of eligibility remaining for the Gators.
Zandamela chose the Trojans out of high school over teams like Florida, Oklahoma, and Florida State. Reports are that he wanted to return closer to home after a season in Southern California.
All in all, this is a massive win for the Gators because it gives them their long-term answer at center. Their hope is that this helps them continue to build momentum as they strive to get back to their glory days.
