National Treasure producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered an update on the long-gestating third installment in the action-adventure franchise that is sure to delight the Disney fandom.
Speaking with MovieWeb, Bruckheimer revealed that there was still movement on National Treasure 3 despite the lack of official updates from Disney. “Well, we hope there’s a National Treasure 3. We’ve been working on it for quite a while,” he admitted. “We have a brilliant writer working on it right now, so hopefully, if we get a script in a timely fashion, we’ll send it to Nic [Cage] and, if he likes it, we’ll make another one. We certainly would like to.”

The National Treasure franchise began in 2004 with the eponymous first installment, which followed Cage’s Ben Gates as he attempted to steal the Declaration of Independence. The film was a major box office success, leading to the 2007 sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets. A third National Treasure film was announced in September 2008 but has since become stuck in development hell. A standalone series, National Treasure: Edge of History, featuring a new cast of treasure-seeking characters, aired a single 10-episode season on Disney+ during the 2022-23 television series.
Nicolas Cage Doesn’t Think National Treasure 3 Will Happen
Bruckheimer’s comments come a few weeks after Cage bluntly stated that there would be “no National Treasure 3,” remarking, “If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.” His response was quite a shock to the National Treasure fandom, especially since there had been reports in late 2022 that Cage was in “various stages of discussion” with Disney about returning as Ben Gates for a third movie.

Jerry Bruckheimer Offers Top Gun 3 Update
Bruckheimer is one of the most commercially successful producers in Hollywood, having played a role in the creation of major franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean, Beverly Hills Cop, Bad Boys, and Top Gun. Regarding the latter, Bruckheimer recently addressed the status of the next Top Gun installment, revealing that the movie would get made as soon as there was an opening in lead star Tom Cruise’s increasingly busy schedule. “It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant,” he explained. “And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you.”
