Munster target Connacht winger Diarmuid Kilgallen for next season

Munster are interested in signing Connacht back Diarmuid Kilgallen for next season.

The move for the 23-year-old Kildare native is likely to go through in the coming weeks and the former Ireland U-20 international would add to Graham Rowntree’s back-three options next season.

A powerful winger who stands at 6ft 4ins and weighs in at 95kg, Kilgallen had an impressive strike-rate of five tries in six games this season before he suffered a serious hamstring injury while playing against Ulster last month.

Munster have been left short in the back three by the retirements of Keith Earls and Andrew Conway, while it’s not known whether Simon Zebo will be part of the squad next season.

Munster have been linked with a move for Bulls hooker Johann Grobelaar as they look to bulk up their tight-five, but they are also waiting on the outcome of the saga regarding Peter O’Mahony’s contract.

Andy Farrell indicated his confidence that the Ireland skipper’s deal would be sorted in the coming weeks, which will come as a relief to fans fretting over his future as they prepare to lose Joey Carbery and potentially Conor Murray at the end of this season.
