Amman, Mar. 23 (Petra)–Head of the General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants (GAFM), Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said the local market has been witnessing “a strong and active” shopping movement since Thursday morning to buy imported foodstuffs and Ramadan commodities, accompanied by “clear” price stability.
In an interview with “Petra,” Haj Tawfiq expected the activity would continue during the next two days, adding that citizens in Wednesday evening went to major commercial centers and retail stores to benefit from their offers on imported foodstuffs and Ramadan goods.
“Despite the activity of the food sector, sales were lower than the Ramadan season in 2022, ” he said.
Major stores that offered offers on food commodities achieved “higher” sales in varying proportions compared to last Ramadan, he noted.
Noting “smooth” shopping movement during the past two days, he said citizens bought “limited” quantities of various materials without focusing on a specific item,.
He also affirmed offers presented to the citizens were “strong and true,” given the “high” competition in the food sector, which met with citizens’ satisfaction regarding their prices.
The market did not record any price hikes on imported food commodities despite the increasing demand, he noted, adding that the current Ramadan season is characterized by “abundant” quantities and a variety of options for citizens, compared to last year.
