A man and a woman have been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision in Kerry on Friday afternoon.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s were airlifted to Cork University Hospital with “serious” injuries after a collision between a van and an SUV near Killorglin shortly after 3.15pm on Friday.

The incident occurred on the N70 at Tullig Beg, Killorglin and was examined by Garda Forensic Collision investigators. The road has since fully reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for anyone with information to contact them.

In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious collision involving a van and an SUV on the N70 at Tullig Beg, Killorglin, Co. Kerry, shortly after 3:15 pm on Friday, April 26th, 2024.

“The drivers of both vehicles, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 30s, were airlifted from the scene to Cork University Hospital. Their injuries are described as serious.

“The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision investigators, and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact them. Those with video footage, including dashcam, from the area at the time are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
