Man (20s) dies following collision between car and lorry in Co Roscommon

A MAN HAS died following a collision between a car and a lorry in Co Roscommon last night.

The incident happened shortly before 10pm on the N61 Athlone Road at Newtown.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken from the scene by ambulance to Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The road at the scene is currently closed with local traffic diversions in place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene, and the local coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the N61 at Newtown at the time of the collision are asked to make it available to gardaí.

Meanwhile, a gardaí have this morning confirmed a pedestrian who was struck by a van in Ringsend, Dublin on 20 March passed away from her injuries three days later on 23 March.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was hit by the van at the junction of Cambridge Road and Thorncastle Street.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal to any witnesses of this collision to come forward.

They are also appealing to anyone with video footage (including dash-cam) from the area between 7.45am and 8.15am on 20 March 2024 to make it available to investigating gardaí.
