Liverpool news: £200m Mohamed Salah transfer theory as Jurgen Klopp suffers injury blow

Liverpool find themselves on the eve of the opportunity to create a magical European moment.

The Reds have endured a challenging week in their bid for Europa League and Premier League success after defeats to Atalanta and Crystal Palace. Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Italy looking to overcome a three-goal deficit and transform their momentum.

The Serie A side have already proven it won’t be an easy task for Liverpool as the Premier League team look to repeat European nights of yesteryear to secure a place in the semi-final. Wednesday will see Klopp provide the latest news in the build-up to that game in his press conference following a difficult spell.

With all of that said Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool news heading into the fixture. It doesn’t all make for pretty reading.

Injury blow

It appears Liverpool’s breakout star Conor Bradley is in a race to be fit again during the Reds title run after picking up an ankle injury against Crystal Palace. Mail Online report that the youngster is in a ‘battle’ to be involved again having made 10 appearances in the Premier League.

The defender has produced one goal and three assists during the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is now set to return. Bradley would have offered the perfect foil to slowly reintroduce the England international who must find his feet at a ruthless part of the season.

Mo Salah transfer theory

Former Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique believes that Mohamed Salah could follow Klopp out of Anfield this summer. The Egyptian’s future is one of a number under scrutiny as he comes towards the final year of his contract one again.

Jurgen Klopp speaking with Mohamed Salah

The ex-Newcastle defender suggests that Liverpool’s top goalscorer was ready to depart the club last summer, and has a theory about the bid that arrived that arrived from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, the Spaniard said: “If the right offer comes then I think Salah will leave because I think he was actually trying to leave last summer. They were offered something like £200 million for him last summer and that was a real offer!

“When you get an offer like that, usually it means there is already an agreement between the player and the club. I think Salah had already agreed to go and I believe that he will finally go to Saudi Arabia this summer.

“Jurgen Klopp is leaving so it is the perfect time for Salah to go. There is a new cycle happening at Liverpool and lots of changes, so it is perfect for him. This will likely be the final big contract of his career, so I think he’ll leave for Saudi Arabia.”

Klopp departure impacts run-in

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to make his much-anticipated return to Liverpool’s lineup for the run-in. With two points to make up on Man City, the Reds will hope he can help influence a perfect record over the next six weeks.

After dropping points in consecutive Premier League matches, Liverpool have no room for error, and Alexander-Arnold believes his head coach’s upcoming departure will play a role. Rather than add pressure, the 25-year-old reckons it will see is team exert every ounce of effort they can.

Alexander-Arnold told Gary Neville on The Overlap: “Having the experience of being in a title race will be a massive part of getting over the line, but obviously Arsenal and Manchester City will have that from last season with their title race

Trent Alexander-Arnold

“I think Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season will feed into the title run-in. The fear that it gets to May and it’s still tight, then it’ll feed into how it’s going to look and how it could feel up until then.

“We just need to try and stay composed. The manager never says we’re trying to win the league, he doesn’t speak about it, but it’s more that we’re going to get the most out of ourselves, we’re going to squeeze every drop of potential there.

“There will be twists and turns no matter what, and I’m sure teams will try and win it, and we’ll come close to winning every single game between now and the end of the season, and we just hope we’re in the best position at the end of the season.”
