latest mock drafts with 7 days until nfl draft: trade-up scenarios

GREEN BAY, Wis. – With more ammunition than just about any general manager in the NFL, Brian Gutekunst can maneuver the Green Bay Packers up and down the draft board to target a player or take advantage of strengths and weaknesses on the board.

ESPN.com’s Bill Barnwell created trade scenarios for every team. The Packers are part of two trade-up possibilities.

“It must be fun to be Brian Gutekunst,” Barnwell wrote.

The first involved the Cincinnati Bengals, who own the 18th pick of the first round. In this scenario, the Bengals sent No. 18 and No. 97 of the third round to Green Bay in exchange for No. 25 of the first round and No. 58 of the second.

“If the Packers plan on moving (right tackle Zach) Tom to center, they could move up here and grab a tackle ahead of the Rams, Steelers and Dolphins, all of whom could be thinking offensive line help,” Barnwell wrote.

If this trade were to become reality, the Packers would own the 18th, 41st, 88th, 91st and 97 selections.

The second scenario had the Packers zooming up to No. 15 in a trade with the Colts. The Packers would send No. 25 of the first round and the second of their second-round picks, No. 58, to Indy.

“I’ve already talked about the idea of Green Bay moving up for a tackle,” Barnwell said. “Bouncing up to No. 15 would get them ahead of the Jaguars and a handful of other teams in that conversation. The Packers could also hit cornerback with both Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes battling injuries over the past couple of seasons, which is another position the Jags might consider addressing at No. 17.”

If this trade were to become reality, the Packers would own the 15th, 41st, 88th and 91st selections.

Draft Countdown: Consensus Mock

Draft Countdown’s Brad Menendez used Mock Draft Database to put together his second Consensus Mock Draft. In both the March edition and the April update, the choice was Iowa’s Cooper DeJean.

Already taken: Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims, Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton, Oregon offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson and Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins. Still available: Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton and Arizona offensive lineman Jordan Morgan.

NBC Sports: Alabama CB Terrion Arnold

Perhaps the best cornerback in the draft, Arnold, fell to Green Bay in Connor Rogers’ mock.

“Arnold played both inside and outside during his time at Alabama and logged over 300 snaps in press coverage (Per PFF),” Rogers wrote. “He’s still more of an athlete at the position rather than an anticipator of throws and route combinations, but that shows what kind of ceiling he has. It’s an added bonus that he’s an aggressive, above-average tackler for a defensive back.”

Arnold earned first-team All-American honors in 2023 with five interceptions and 17 passes defensed. He’s not especially big (5-foot-11 3/4) and he’s not especially fast (4.50) but he’s an elite playmaker who plays with more toughness than most cornerbacks.

CBS Sports: Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry

Chris Trapasso also went to Alabama for a cornerback. In this case, it was McKinstry. Like Arnold, he’s not especially big (5-foot-11 1/2) and he’s not especially fast (4.47 speed). He’s also not a big-time playmaker (two career interceptions) but he played sticky coverage for all three seasons.

“Awesome value here for the Packers, a club loaded with youth and picks in this draft,” Trapasso wrote. “McKinstry is the bold outside cornerback Green Bay needs long term.”

CBS Sports: Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton

Sticking with CBS, Jonathan Jones dove into a deep class of quality offensive tackles. The Packers might want to keep Zach Tom at right tackle for the rest of his career. They might love Rasheed Walker’s growth at left tackle. But the Packers have no depth on the offensive line.

“This is a very good offensive lineman draft and the Packers need one of them,” Jones wrote. “Guyton played right tackle at Oklahoma but will need some time adjusting to the pros.”

Pro Football Network (3 Rounds): Duke OL Graham Barton

In his latest three-rounder, Will Helms went with Duke’s All-American left tackle. Shorter-than-desired arms could send him to guard or center, which is where he started his college career.

The big needs were addressed with the Day 2 picks: Michigan linebacker Junior Colson and Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter in the second round and Maryland safety Beau Brade in the third.

With the other third-round pick, the choice was Clemson running back Will Shipley ahead of Texas running back Jonathon Brooks. In three seasons, Shipley ran for 2,748 yards and caught 85 passes. He’s got 4.45 speed and plays bigger than his 206-pound stature would suggest.

Sharp Football: Duke OL Graham Barton

Explained Brendan Donahue: “The Packers haven’t selected an offensive lineman in the first round in 13 years, but their current roster construction could break that streak.”

Cornerbacks Nate Wiggins and Kool-Aid McKinstry went shortly thereafter.
