Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) warms-up before the NFL game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Dec. 24, 2023
The Dallas Cowboys are on a run of three straight 12-5 seasons and have been a fixture in the NFC playoff picture in recent years. With 2024 set to be a make-or-break year for both head coach Mike McCarthy and QB Dak Prescott, a lot is riding on this underachieving Cowboys team to finally take a much-needed step up.
Let’s take a look at the Cowboys’ schedule for the 2024 NFL season, where their strength of schedule (SOS) ranks, our record prediction, and preview Dallas’ biggest matchups of the season.
Dallas Cowboys’ Schedule and Opponents
We don’t yet know the Cowboys’ exact schedule as that information has not been released, but we do know who their opponents will be for the 2024 season. We will have to wait for the official NFL schedule release to find out exactly when Dallas will face the following teams.
Home: New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans
Road: New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns
Cowboys’ Strength of Schedule
The Cowboys benefited from an easier schedule in 2023 that let them feast on inferior opponents. While this year’s schedule is not the most daunting of schedules, they do rank 15th in PFN’s in-house metric for strength of schedule.
With road matchups against the 49ers, and their usual Eagles visit, the road schedule is tough but pales in comparison to the home slate they have lined up for in 2024. With home dates against the Lions, Ravens, and Texans, to name a few, the Cowboys’ home schedule looks to be a gauntlet this year.
Cowboys Record Prediction: 10-7
Despite this team having a truly perplexing offseason that has seen far more talent leave than was retained, Dallas still has top-level talent at key positions to feel good about. They’re undeniably a worse team on paper than they were last year, and with a tougher schedule, it’s only fair to assume regression is coming.
Nevertheless, with players like Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Jake Ferguson holding down the offense, coupled with Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and DaRon Bland anchoring the defense, there’s still enough talent for this Cowboys team to win double-digit games and be a playoff team.
With Prescott under center for the majority of a season, the team has never had a losing record, and there’s no reason to think that would change now. It may be harder than they’ve been accustomed to as of late, but this is still a good football team capable of winning on any given Sunday.
Biggest Matchups of the Year
It’s hard to look at the Cowboys’ schedule and not circle the 49ers matchup. Dallas’ kryptonite, as of late, has been this Kyle Shanahan-ran San Francisco team, and everyone knows it.
With a matchup set on the West Coast, the Cowboys and 49ers matchup will surely be a prime-time affair once again, and all the burden will be on Prescott and the ‘boys to find a way to slay the dragon.
A close second-place choice would have to be the in-state matchup where the Texans come into town to battle for Texas supremacy. Houston has been an NFL darling lately with QB C.J. Stroud under center. And with the addition of Stefon Diggs, we may all finally get that Diggs vs. Diggs matchup we have been waiting for before Trevon’s injury.

Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes this matchup that should have the entire state buzzing this season.
