Kevin Quiambao all set for UAAP MVP coronation
MANILA, Philippines: All he needs now is the official coronation.
Kevin Quiambao is set to bring home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament after ending up as the leader in statistical points (SP) rankings released by the league on Wednesday, November 29.
The do-it-all La Salle forward was miles ahead of the competition with 97.0 SP built on his season averages of 16.71 points, 10.86 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.93 steals per game.
It was hands down an outstanding season for the 6-foot-6 forward who even logged two triple-doubles, the first player to have done it in the Final Four era.
Quiambao, 22, is poised to become the first local MVP in UAAP men’s basketball since Ateneo great Kiefer Ravena won his second straight in 2015.
UE’s Remogat finished a distant second to Quiambao in the MVP race with 85.929 SP, while Quiambao’s teammate Evan Nelle is third with 77.538.
UP’s Malick Diouf, the Season 85 MVP, finished fourth this time with 74.769 SP as FEU’s L-Jay Gonzales placed fifth with 66.857.
Quiambao, Remogat, Nelle, Diouf, and Gonzales thus made up the Mythical Team of the season.
