After narrowly escaping France in the 2021 Olympics and not medaling in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Team USA is pulling out the big guns for the upcoming 2024 games in Paris.
Superstars around the NBA like LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant all vowed to play, and unlike in past events where there hasn’t been a sense of urgency, it means something this time around. Team USA will be sending 12 players to the games with 11 of them being announced Monday, and on Wednesday they revealed who the final spot was going to.
Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was chosen for the final spot, and is expected to help anchor this team as they will face their fiercest competition yet. In true Kawhi fashion, when his team surprised him with his jersey, he appeared to not be too moved by the surprise reveal and even seemed to be shocked by his No. 8.
He is currently hoping to lead the Clippers to a title after the team was sent packing in the first round of last year. Standing in their way of advancing past the first round are the Dallas Mavericks, led by Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
