- Justin Kluivert’s studs scraped Luis Diaz’s shin and the winger came off for a bit
- Jurgen Klopp was infuriated in the wake of the nasty-looking challenge on Diaz
Jurgen Klopp was furious after Justin Kluivert left Luis Diaz in agony with a studs-up challenge – but faced no consequences.
The Liverpool manager looked angry and in disbelief as remonstrated with an official, and Diaz had to temporarily come off.
Kluivert faced no consequences and VAR cleared the challenge – despite co-commentator Alan Smith thinking it was somewhere ‘between a yellow and red’ card.
The incident took place in the first half of Liverpool’s trip to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth.
‘Were the VAR team having a coffee break during that Kluivert stud-scrape of Luis Diaz?’ wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: ‘I think Kluivert’s a lucky boy. In those situations, I don’t want to see a red card. The reason Liverpool will be frustrated is because Curtis Jones was sent off for something similar against Tottenham.
‘It’s a nasty challenge but he just gets the right decision. Football isn’t played in slow-motion.

‘When you see it at full speed, there’s not too much there.
Alan Smith said: ‘He’s stretching for it, and it’s a painful one. It’s certainly not a malicious challenge.
‘It looks an innocent challenge at normal speed. I don’t think it’s a red. Somewhere in between a yellow and a red. He had his eyes firmly fixed on the ball.’
