Jelly Roll Shines During Stagecoach Performance
Jelly Roll’s Stagecoach set was a wild one.
The musician took the stage on Friday night, shortly before Eric Church’s headlining slot, for a performance of some of his biggest country hits, even bringing on T-Pain for a duet of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” and Maddie & Tae to sing unreleased song “Liar.”
Earlier in the day, Jelly Roll joined Guy Fieri at the Smokehouse Cooking Demo stage for a quick culinary lesson. The country musician told Variety he was a big fan of Stagecoach and planned to “hang out for the weekend.”
“I’m gonna be giving hugs away, like the CMT Awards,” he said. “I’m flying my daughter out, and you think I was gonna miss the chance for my daughter to see Miranda Lambert headline Stagecoach?”
The performance comes just after he released a duet cover of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” with T-Pain for Amazon Music. “I’ve been covering the song and Toby’s son saw me at the CMTs and took me to the side and said, ‘Hey man, I want to let you know I’ve seen a video of you covering this song, and I think it’s one of the best versions of it ever. And I think you honor my father,’ ” Jelly Roll recounted to Variety. “And it just meant so much to me.”
Proceeds from the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” cover will benefit the Toby Keith Foundation, which supports the health and happiness of pediatric cancer patients. Jelly Roll also joined Joyner Lucas on “Best For Me” last month.
This year’s Stagecoach is headlined by Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, and Morgan Wallen, and performances from Elle King, Post Malone, Willie Nelson, Hardy, and Bailey Zimmerman. It’s also being streamed live on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel and Prime Video.
