The shop which sold the winning ticket for Saturday’s Lotto jackpot has been revealed as the selling location for one of the largest wins in National Lottery history.
It was a weekend to remember for one lucky Limerick Lotto player who scooped the €8,970,934 jackpot in Saturday night’s draw after correctly matching all six numbers plus the bonus. The winning numbers were 01, 09, 10, 14, 26, 40 and bonus 04.
The National Lottery has confirmed that the winning ticket was sold at Garryowen Stores in Limerick City – the same store that sold Dolores McNamara’s record-breaking EuroMillions ticket in 2005.
McNamara famously became the first EuroMillions jackpot winner in Ireland after purchasing her winning €115 million ticket at Garryowen Stores in July 2005 which marked the biggest lottery win in Europe at the time.
The jackpot had not been won since May and had rolled over nine time, leading to McNamara bagging the then-record sum.
After scooping the staggering EuroMillions jackpot, McNamara was instantly propelled to No 70 on Ireland’s rich list, overtaking Manchester United captain Roy Keane and Hollywood star Colin Farrell.
McNamara revealed in an interview after her big win that she’d originally meant to buy lines for the National Lottery and got confused when the shop assistant asked if she wanted a €2 EuroMillions ticket.
Photo shows the Garryowen store in Limerick on 1 August 2005 where local resident Dolores McNamara purchased the winning Euromillions lottery ticket.
“I didn’t know that this was a different draw to the Saturday night one on RTÉ television, so I just said yes,” she said at the time.
“The lady asked if it was a quick-pick I wanted. I said it was. I wouldn’t have bothered staying to do it if I’d had to pick out numbers and mark them on a slip.”
Saturday’s Lotto jackpot win marks the third Lotto jackpot win of 2024.
Lotto players in Limerick are now being urged to check their tickets from Saturday night’s draw to see if they have won the life-changing sum.
As the winning ticket holder is yet to come forward, the National Lottery are appealing to players who purchased their ticket in the Limerick City area for the April 20 draw to carefully check their tickets as one player now has a ticket worth over €8.9 million.
