A weather expert has confirmed a “fine few days” of glorious weather is forecast before things take a major turn and heavy rain takes hold.

While it will be mostly dry, settled and warm through to Saturday, with some highs of 22C expected, the weather will turn more unsettled from the Atlantic later Saturday into Sunday with rain and showers returning.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather shared on his ever-reliable X page that Ireland was due some good weather for the coming days before rain takes hold on Saturday night leading into Sunday, although things could improve again near the end of next week.

He wrote: “A few fine days ahead before showers likely return Saturday night and Sunday. Still some uncertainty around Sunday’s details.

“More unsettled then next week but exact track of low system will determine how much rain we see. Possibly improving again towards end of next week though.”

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has also pinpointed Saturday night as the return of rain, with outbreaks expected throughout the night in the west of the country after patchy showers develop on the coast over the afternoon.

This will lead into a mixed Sunday. While there are a few sunny spells expected over the day in parts, over the day there will be rain, some heavy, with the chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Despite this, Ireland is still poised for a few days of glorious weather before the return of rain, with the national forecaster confirming dry weather of up to 22C on Friday after hitting up to 20C on Thursday. Here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the week ahead:

Thursday

Dry today, Thursday, with any mist and fog soon clearing this morning. While there will be a good deal of cloud overall, warm spells of hazy sunshine will develop, the best of these in Leinster and Munster. Sea fog may affect south and east coasts at times. Highest temperatures of 16C to 20C in mostly light southerly or variable breezes.

Continuing dry nationwide tonight with varying cloud amounts. Clear spells will increase overnight. Isolated mist and fog patches will form, mainly in southern parts. Lowest temperatures 7C to 11C in light southeast or variable breezes.

Friday

Any morning cloud or patchy mist and fog, will give way to a dry and mostly sunny day, tomorrow, Friday. Highest temperatures of 18C to 22C in light to moderate south or southeast breezes, warmest inland. It’ll be a little cooler near south and southeast coasts due to onshore breezes and there is a chance of sea fog drifting inland here at times.

It will continue dry on Friday night with long clear spells. Mist and fog will form overnight, particularly in parts of the south and west. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C in light southeast or variable breezes.

Saturday

Saturday will be another mostly dry day with mist and fog clearing early on Saturday morning. Plenty of warm sunshine once again, although it will turn cloudier in Atlantic coastal counties during the afternoon with the chance of patchy rain or showers developing there during the evening. Highest temperatures of 17C to 21C, warmest inland, in light to moderate southerly breezes.

Cloud will increase everywhere on Saturday night with outbreaks of rain in the western areas spreading eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C in light southerly or variable breezes.

Sunday

Current indications suggest Sunday will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells with showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C in light and variable breezes.
