Jordan Spieth gave Hideki Matsuyama some very, very good advice following his insane final round at Riviera

LOS ANGELES — Jordan Spieth accepted full responsibility for his disqualification on Friday at the Genesis Invitational, the result of Spieth signing an incorrect scorecard. Now that 48 hours have passed, though, the three-time major winner had no issue poking fun himself and how the whole situation played out.

Like the rest of us, Spieth was watching Hideki Matsuyama’s final-round masterclass from the couch. The former Masters winner closed with a nine-under 62 on Sunday at Riviera, locking up his ninth PGA Tour victory in unbelievably impressive style. While he did so with a number of other contenders still on the course, it sure felt over for the likes of Will Zalatoris, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, who all stumbled late down the stretch. All that was left for Matsuyama was to sign the scorecard and make it official.

As Spieth knows, that’s a lot easier said than done, however.

Well played, Jordy, well played. We doubt he’ll ever make that mistake again, and we’re pleased to report Matsuyama didn’t make that mistake, either.
