LeBron James is 21 seasons into his career and has been arguably the best player the NBA has ever seen. He has done it all, winning four championships, MVPs, Finals MVPs, countless All-NBA nods, and more. The fact that he has been doing it for two decades since he started cements him as one of the best.
Bron has cemented himself in debates between him, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant as the best NBA superstars of the modern era. For a former player like Bonzi Wells, who played against all three superstars, he sees Bron having a slight disadvantage compared to his fellow all-time greats.
“I got Jordan, Kobe, and then Bron. You can’t go wrong with those three… In my opinion, Bron is a 1C Guy, I can’t put him ahead of Kobe or Mike because those guys were my size 6’5″/6’6″ and they didn’t have the advantage like LeBron who is 6’9″ and 250,” Bonzi said on All The Smoke Unplugged. “Sometimes, he can overpower the game. The skillset of MJ and Kobe is unmatched.”
LeBron does well under pressure
Despite Bonzi’s preference, he did highlight one of Bron’s best achievements. It’s the fact that James went from being the most hyped-up high-school prospect ever and lived up to the hype. He got anointed as the chosen one from day one, and he never had any issues with meeting that standard and even exceeding it as his career went on.
“Bron is a special player, he’s one of my favorite players who I’ve played. I like how he moves in real life, he’s a beacon of hope for guys who come in with all that pressure, and sustain it throughout his career,” Bonzi continued.
The four-time champion keeps surprising fans because he always steps up and proves them wrong again whenever he gets doubted. King James deserves all the praise, as he’s earned the right to receive plaudits for his impact on basketball.
Bonzi makes a valid point about James’ skill set
LeBron is one of the most talented players in NBA history, but he is one of the most physically gifted players ever. He is tall, absurdly athletic, and strong, making any player struggle against him. Compare that to Jordan and Kobe, who were smaller, which meant they had to work on their skill sets to create separation from their opponents.
While Bonzi said those two shooting guards have the skill advantage, that does not mean Bron is unskilled. He might look a bit robust with his reliance on his strength to score, but King James also has a playmaking bag.
He is ahead of his all-time great peers in that aspect of the game, as he’s the primary ball handler who can create for his teammates. Bonzi makes a valid point, but thankfully, he still shows love for LeBron as one of the greatest players ever.
