After weeks of uncertainty, a volcano in southwest Iceland erupted on Monday night, the country’s Met Office said. “Eruption has started north of Grindavik, north of Sundhnukur,” it posted on its website.
“An eruption has started north of Grindavík. It can be seen on webcams and seems to be located close to Hagafell, about 3 km north of Grindavík. The eruption began at 22.17 following the earthquake swarm that started around 21.00”
The Reykjanes volcano in southwestern Iceland has finally erupted, with lava fountains reaching up to 330 feet.
The eruption started on Monday night at 10.17pm.

Aerial footage of the newly opened volcanic fissure near Grindavík, Iceland, which is estimated by experts to be about 3 km long.
Following the series of over 3000 earthquakes in a short span, Iceland had declared a state of emergency and authorities had ordered the roughly three thousand people living in the town of Grindavik to evacuate as a precaution weeks ago.
