Chhindwara: The body of Indian Air Force soldier, Corporal Vikky Pahade, arrived in Chhindwara for last rites. The soldier lost his life in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir after an Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by terrorists on May 4.
The Air Force soldier’s sister, Sub-Inspector Geeta Pahade said, “I am very proud of my brother.”
“I got to know about this (her brother’s demise) a day before yesterday,” she said. “I want justice for my brother.”
Corporal Pahade’s brother-in-law, Sanju Gaunekar said, “We came to know about the matter on Saturday evening. We received a message at around 6:30 pm that he suffered a bullet injury and was hospitalised in Udhampur. Later, we were informed at around 7:30 pm that he succumbed to injuries.”
“We are proud of him, but it is a tragedy for the family as he was the lone son in the family and had three sisters. His father also passed away earlier,” Gaunekar added.
The soldier left behind a five-year-old son, wife, mother, and sisters. The Indian Air Force on Sunday paid a tribute to Corporal Vikky Pahade, reported ANI.
A massive manhunt was launched after the terrorist attack on the Indian Air Force convoy. Additional forces of the Indian Army reached the Jarra Wali Gali (JWG) in Poonch on late night Saturday.
In the immediate aftermath, the Rashtriya Rifles unit initiated a cordon and search operations in the area, with the support of the Army and police, to find the perpetrators.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was present in Chhindwara, the native place of the IAF soldier, to attend his last rites and pay his respects. “Guard of Honour and State honours will be given to Corporal Vikky Pahade but no one can fill the personal loss,” he said.
The CM’s office had said that an assistance amount of Rs 1 crore will be provided to the family of the Indian Air Force soldier. The state government will send the proposal to the Election Commission for approval.
A search operation is currently underway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch following the terrorist attack on IAF convoy.
